[ He doesn't respond to the text, but instead, he's definitely calling. ]
Hey. Uh, sorry. I know it's early. There's something weird going on here.
[ If it sounds like he's outside, it's because he definitely has gone out for a walk. If he had his wolf abilities, it would be an all out run to try and clear his thoughts. ]
I woke up without my abilities. No senses, I can't turn, nothing. But my roommate can.
It's not that early, Isaac, I hike at sunrise. Don't worry about it.
[ He clears his throat and pauses, eyebrows lifting. ]
Wait...hold on, let me make sure I'm understanding: you're saying you don't have your werewolf abilities anymore, but your roommate has werewolf abilities - did she not have them before? She didn't, right?
[ Derek sighs. It's one thing to help Isaac through losing his powers. Derek's been there and it sucks, but losing them to someone else? That's outside Derek's wheelhouse. ]
I don't know if you can fix it, Isaac. You might just have to try to teach her to use her anchor and hope for the best... As for you, you should probably learn some self-defense sooner than later if you don't already have that kind of thing under your belt. If you can't defend yourself without the werewolf stuff, you should learn in case this takes a while.
[ How is he supposed to teach anyone anything? He knows a lot about what worked and didn't work for him, sure, but a lot of that was trial and error. But to teach someone how to find their anchor when they barely know how to be a werewolf? ]
I... I don't have anything like that. I mean I could fight before this, but I was stronger and faster. It's like someone's stuck a plastic bag over my head, you know? Like everything's dialed back and slow, and...
[ He sucks in a shaky breath. The whole world seems much, much smaller now that he's lost his heightened senses. Almost a little claustrophobic. When he speaks again, his voice is a little smaller, almost reminiscent of the younger man Derek met years ago before the bite. ]
Shit. Can you teach me? Self-defense. Or... or do you know someone who can?
Somebody's going to have to teach her and the only one of us she knows well enough to trust is probably you, Isaac. I'd be happy to help if you think I'd be helpful.
[ Frowning, Derek nods to himself. He sighs. ]
Yeah, I didn't either. This happened to me a few years ago, back home. Some shit Kate managed to do. I know exactly how it feels and it really sucks.
[ There's a short pause as he considers. ]
I'm not actually that good at it, but Lydia and the Allisons are good teachers. You can come down to the gym, man, that's pretty much what we do is just teach other Supers how to defend themselves without their powers for the just in case times.
[ He knows Derek is right, but that doesn't change he uncertainty, the discomfort. He doesn't want to mess it up, do it wrong, and have Hermione end up hurt or anymore upset than she already is. ]
I talked to Allison about it a while ago. Uh, the other Allison, not the one from home. I guess I'll have to do that again.
[ He goes quiet, not sure how to express how scared he is, how uncertain he is. ] What did you do back home? When it happened to you?
Yeah, that or just stop by the gym and ask. Somebody will be in there that can work with you.
[ Derek frowns as he considers. It isn't something he particularly likes to think about considering it ended in his death. Evolution into the full wolf he really is, but still. He had to die to get there and it's not an enjoyable thing for him to think about. ]
Well...first, I tried to hide it. Then, Braeden taught me how to use a gun. So, self-defense, just a different flavor. I mean, when it happened to me, it was also in the middle of a supernatural dead pool, so you know, not an ideal time to be de-powered. But that's why I think she went with guns instead of martial arts.

You can call if that's easier.

[ Which, honestly, breaking the table had been scary enough. ]
She's kind of freaking out and I don't know how to fix it. It's not like she wants to be one. Not like I did.
