[the hug is returned affectionately, a grin on his face at the fact that he apparently hadn't ruined everything between them before. while a part of him was aware of the fact that derek wasn't really the type of person to hold something like that against him, it'd been impossible to keep those nerves at bay when he'd walked into the bar. now though, knowing that things are okay, it makes it that much easier to relax. to enjoy being around the man again. (they're still pack afterall, no matter how far apart they may be.)
when the words come, scott lets out a snort of laughter, all tension gone despite the shot being taken at his younger self. yes, he's well aware that he was an ass, regardless of his reasons why. but with both derek and malia still here in the city, he's more than ready to set all of that aside and start over. speaking of which--]
I'm going back to see her afterwards.
[because he owes her that much. given how close the two of them are (will be) back home, he doesn't want to lose that here. it's just too bad that all of them seem to be from different moments in time still. though thankfully, not quite as bad as it had been only a short while ago here.]
You're gonna come by after work though, right? I mean, if you're not busy, the three of us could watch a movie or something. [or at least just hang out together for a couple of hours.] We can order pizza.
[ He nods, relieved that Scott's already planning on it. Derek and Malia are still working on their relationship and becoming closer, but the thing is that he does care about her and he knows that she was hurting, whether she told him or not.
Derek gives a little facial shrug in response to the request. ]
Yeah, if you want, I don't have any plans tonight. I can come by. When did you get back, anyway? Just now?
[ His eyes shift toward the door and then back to Scott. No one has come in yet, so it's fine that, for the moment, he's distracted. ]
Are you still working at the animal shelter? Or are you starting all over?
[more or less. he hadn't stayed with malia for too long. just enough to let her know he was back. that he'd be back later. for better or worse, there were only two people in the city that he knew he needed to talk to. so leaving one to see the other isn't something he feels too guilty about. the order on the other hand...]
I'm not too sure what I'm going to do right now. If there's space at the clinic, I might see if I can go train there.
[but it's a comment accompanied by a shrug. for the time being, he's content to just focus on settling back in again. on spending time with derek and malia and try to erase the mess he'd left behind. though, showing up at derek's place of work probably isn't the best way to start.
a quick glance back to the door, and then he's reaching in to his pocket for-- ahah!]
I'm gonna head back to see Malia again. But this is for you. ["this" being the copy of his door key that he holds out. it's not likely he'll keep the door locked while he's in his apartment, but he has no issue with either of them making themselves at home when he's out.]
Wow, so not long at all. You must have been feeling pretty damn guilty to come here so soon after arriving...have you even given yourself a minute to settle in, man?
[ Derek makes a mental note to follow up on where Scott ends up. If the younger werewolf is vacating a volunteer position at the shelter, Derek might fill it so that they don't lose out on the help. He's been thinking about it anyway, whether Scott left or not.
He looks a little confused for a moment when he notices Scott fishing around in his pocket, but when he pulls out a key, Derek huffs his amusement and reaches out to take it. ]
Thanks. Is this pay back for all the times you guys used my loft for your own shit, sometimes without asking?
[ There's amusement in his eyes and tone, so hopefully Scott realizes he's joking. Mostly. ]
[the answer to derek's first question is more than obvious by the look on his face alone. guilt, and a hint of embarrassment at being caught out so easily. no, he hadn't hesitated before coming to see the two of them. if his timing had been better, then he would've just dragged them both into one of their apartments and stayed there all night. but at least this way he has a chance to restock out his apartment first.]
Hey, we used my house too, sometimes. [though that was only now thanks to his mother knowing about the supernatural. and the fact that he had a pack of his own to take care of. which reminds him--]
So, I never really asked you before. But I need to know what the last thing you remember from home is. [a beat, and--] Does the name Monroe mean anything to you?
[because there's no way he's bringing up the wild hunt or the anuk-ite if derek hasn't lived through any of it yet.]
[ Derek heaves a long suffering sigh that the amusement still in his eyes gives away as put on. One of these days, Scott McCall is going to run himself into the ground worrying about other people and nearly never himself. Derek will never say that, though, because he's not really one to talk.
To Scott's counter, Derek smirks a little, his eyebrows lifted. They both know that more damage was done in Derek's loft during battle than McCall's house. Then again, for all Derek knows, that changes in the future and Scott knows more than he does like he knew more than Scott did before now. Time travel is really confusing... ]
Monroe? No...? The last thing from home that would maybe count as a significant enough milestone to be noteworthy was technically not home at all; it was down in Mexico, but that was a while ago. I was in South America visiting Cora for a while after Braeden and I broke up. Then here.
[mexico. meaning it's a lot more than just the anuk-ite and the wild hunt. he doesn't know about the dread doctors, the chimera. doesn't know that malia met her mother, or even that he came back to beacon hills when scott needed him the most.]
[though at least the time difference works in both of their favors this time round. he knows who derek really is now. trusts him implicitly. he doesn't have any reason to hold any kind of animosity towards him anymore.]
So, I can't exactly tell you everything that happened. But I kind of need to say one thing. [not that he really thinks it'll come as all that much of a surprise to derek.]
I know things aren't exactly the same for you, but I just-- I want you to know that you'll always have a place with us, okay? Doesn't matter what happened, or where any of us are. You're still... You know. [pack.]
[ Clearing his throat, Derek's eyebrows lift. That's...a long time. Not the same length of time behind that Scott had been before, but still. A lot can happen in a year, especially in Beacon Hills. He's hoping he didn't miss much, but he's not going to hold his breath for that; God knows, missing a week can be critical back home, sometimes. ]
That's...a long time.
[ There are plenty of question he'd like to ask right about now, but Scott's beaten him to the punch by pointing out that he can't tell him everything, which sort of negates most of Derek's questions.
A small smile tugs up the corners of his mouth and Derek nods a little. ]
I know.
[ Even now, he knows. Scott's kind of stuck with him, whether he likes it or not. It sounds like that'll be less of a struggle now, though, at least. ]
