Well, welcome to the club. From what I can tell, it's pretty exclusive.
[ Although, when she says superpowers, Derek assumes supernatural abilities because he hasn't experienced anything else. ]
Yeah, that sounds about right. That's how Melissa is back in Beacon Hills. And the Sheriff is our go-to in law enforcement. People like you guys are irreplaceable for people like me.
Ah, you can't be that much older than me. What are you, thirty-two, thirty-three, tops?
[ Maybe he's flattering a little more than he'd realistically guess, but not by much, since he's guessing as though she'd gone into nursing straight out of school and assuming that it takes four years, since he has no actual idea how nursing school works. ]
I don't think any of my 'special' friends have any law enforcement they can count on. It's hard - they're considered vigilantes, back home, and are basically hunted by the police.
[ They'll have some help. Just... not yet. ]
But I'm glad you have people to help you back home, too. Can't be easy.
[ She smiles to herself, looking down at her screen. Well played, Hale. ]
thirty-four. Close enough, but getting to the 'quite a bit older' than you, I feel.
[ Not that she cares very much. He's hot and he's nice. That's all she's looking for. ]
That's unfortunate. It's become incredibly useful to have someone in power in local law enforcement to back us up when we need it. Hopefully your friends find a resource someday.
[ Derek huffs a laugh lacking amusement in response to that. She has no idea... ]
Yeah...it can get pretty tough now and again. But that's life, I guess.
Ah, that's not quite a bit. Quite a bit older is just shy of significantly, if you ask me, and you're not close enough to significantly to consider yourself quite a bit. Be fair to yourself, Claire, come on now.
[ Derek's not really sure he's looking for anything, but he's certainly open to just about anything. He tells himself that the sorts of people offered the opportunity to be here are probably safe. So, that just leaves attractive, which she is, and interesting to talk to, which she also is. So, Claire certainly has his attention. That much is for sure. ]
yeah, these people I'm helping out could definitely do with some police backing their plays. I feel like, sometimes, they like the illegality, though. Makes them feel, i don't know, rogueish or something. A little wild.
But then I'm the one picking up the pieces.
[ Which is not the most fun, if you ask her. She'd rather not have to do any of that.
Laughing, she rolls her eyes a little. A charmer, that one is, apparently. Not that she, herself, is looking for much - connections, friendships, flirting, maybe a bit more, she's good with it all. She doesn't expect nor really is looking to fall in love. It feels like too much complication, when people are inevitably going to leave Cadelle sooner rather than later.
But the flirting is nice, comforting, makes her feel good about herself. And he's very attractive, so that's all good with her. ]
I know it is significant for some, but it might not be for you. I know I've stopped looking at age as anything but a random number. Thing is, I'm healthy, I'm in shape, and I am hungry to live my life to the fullest. I think that's what matters, right?
Yeah, I can see how that would be less than appealing.
Well, it's not significant as far as I'm concerned.
[ And since he's the one she's talking to right now, then isn't that what matters? ]
I think those are pretty much all of the things that matter the most, if you ask me. I feel you on those sentiments, too. We should meet in person sometime.
[ She smiles, feeling warmth through her limbs, pleased. ]
I'd like that very much. I'm pretty easy to find, really, but you might not want to come to the hospital just to meet me. It's not the nicest place to just hang out.
I work mostly night shifts though, so I'm available and around during the day. My schedule is all a bit skewed, though, because of that.
Yeah, I try to avoid hospitals when I can for several reasons, no offense...
[ With a nose like his, a hospital is kind of a nightmare. Normal humans can smell the antiseptic in the air, but Derek can smell that and the despair, and pain, and disease, and...well. Everything. None of it is particularly pleasant, except maybe the get well bouquets that only barely mask the other scents. ]
That's fine, I mostly work at night, too; I work at CriminALES. So yeah, whenever during the day is probably fine. Just let me know.
I get that. It's not always the safest place for some people, sadly. I wish it could be, but I understand that it's not, and it's another reason for me to keep my field medicine skills sharp ;).
What about breakfast? We can meet post shift, if you'd like. And if you've had enough of people, I'll cook.I make a mean breakfast burrito.
Yeah, that, too. Hey, yeah there you go. Always good to have a reason to hone important skills.
I can do breakfast, that sounds good. I don't mind people, these days. But I also wouldn't say no to someone cooking for me. If you'd be coming straight from work, I'd suggest we go out because the last thing you'll probably feel like doing after work is cooking, right?
[ She had to have done that on purpose...had to have. ]
Far be it for me to interrupt bath time. It doesn't matter to me, whatever you prefer, but I have heard that, actually. So at some point or another, we'll have to check it out.

[ It could be a tease, or it could be just that she will whatever time she needs to relax. That's something she's learned, especially in recent years. It's an essential part of her routine. ]

It would probably be proper to go out, and Dinah's makes excellent pancakes.

Post-shift, tomorrow morning, Dinah's. Sounds good?
