You should know that I don't really know very much about running a business and if you ask Isaac or my little sister Cora, I'm sure they'd be all too happy to tell you that I'm not very good at training PEOPLE, but...I can try.
Good call.
[ The significance of that is not lost on Derek. ]
You really want to rent it? Think they'll let you buy it eventually? Also, what are you thinking for the business plan? Like, where does the income come from? Club dues?
You seemed fine to me when you were teaching me how to train the boys. And we can find other trainers, too, so people can take their pick.
I’m just trying to be realistic. If I’m yanked out of here and no one else wants to run it, then this way no one is stuck with the mortgage or the responsibility. I’m not trying to be negative, but both Five and Klaus were dragged home. They were back after two days, but. Just in case.
[ It feels like a Hargreeves curse, and like she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop for herself. Five and Klaus came back, but Diego hadn’t. Vanya hadn’t. It had taken Ben a while to get back. What if she leaves and doesn’t come back? ]
I know that isn’t the best selling point, and this isn’t to convince you or guilt trip you into more. Like I said, I’m just trying to be practical.
Club dues, partnerships, sponsorships. I’m sure some brands will want to cater to Supers, not everyone hates us.
That's different and you know it. But I'll do my best. Definitely, we should get other trainers, though. If for no other reason than everybody is going to need something different out of their trainer to succeed.
Oh, that's a good point...
[ One he hadn't thought of when he and Laura took out the mortgage. Granted, it'll be paid off in a year or so, but what if they don't both last that long? Had she thought about it? He hadn't up to this point... Of all the people who should've, though, Derek should've, considering the foresight he'd taken with making sure Vanya would take care of Chance if one of the DeChima porters shoved him back out of that world again. ]
Yeah, that's a good idea. It's not not a selling point, though. Don't worry about it.
I guess that's where your real celebrity expertise might come in handy, huh, with the sponsorships? I wouldn't have even thought of that, but yeah, some of them actually love us. I know things sound bleak; I saw the paper. But stuff like this has blown over before. It'll blow over again.
Training shouldn’t have anything to do with social skills, just how effective it is. You’re skilled, which is important, and to me that’s really what matters.
Heh, yeah. I have some experience in it. I’ve already started reaching out to see what I can find, so I’m hoping to have a few things ironed out in the next few days.
And I’m not too hopeful, but I had a run in with a few “disgruntled” individuals, so. Can’t say I’m as optimistic.
It is and it isn't, though, Allison. I'm good at the technical part now, which is especially ironic given the only reason for that is because a different version of you taught me to be. But if the way I actually teach it isn't compatible with the way the student learns best, then they're not going to retain it with my style of teaching. So yes, it's important, but it's also not a full reassurance that I'd be good at this. I'm telling you...I was very bad at it the last time I tried. So, as long as you go into it knowing that and you're still willing to let me give it a whirl and see what happens, then yeah. I've got your back and I'm on it. Just know the risk is all I'm saying.
Not a bad plan at all. Nice one.
I don't know, I haven't personally had a run-in, so it's probably not really my place to speak to it. I just know there've been some flare-ups where locals get up in arms about us being here and then they just find something else to be pissed about the next month. What kind of run-in...? You okay?
I think my view on it is skewed considering my training, but I get where you’re coming from. I can put up a message and see who else would feel comfortable training. But yes, let’s try it. If you end up not liking it or something else happens, we’ll figure it out.
Thanks.
[ For a moment she regrets mentioning anything, considering how this is the first time she’s ‘talking’ about it with someone outside of her family, but she also wants him to know why she’s trying to get this going sooner rather than later. ]
I was out for a run and two men ambushed me. Not to rob me, it was deliberate because I’m a Super.
I’m fine. But I don’t want other people that don’t have any kind of training to go through this shit. Maybe I’m a little too late, but I can’t just sit and not do anything, either.
This is the part where a normal person would ask if you called the cops but given my own personal experience and the fact that I don't trust cops any further than a human could throw one...you need help taking care of it so it doesn't happen again or are you good?
It's never too late. Sometimes it can feel that way, but if one person gets spared that situation, then it wasn't too late for them. You know?

[ Of one, anyway. And, knowing her family, she doubts the second one got away without a little visit. ]
Yeah, that’s how I’m looking at it. It’s not a complete fix, but it’s something.

Something is better than nothing.

Agreed.
Thanks for giving this a shot. I’ve been thinking about this a lot but I needed to get a second opinion, so. Thank you.

Yeah, don't even mention it. You're welcome.

Sounds good, thanks. I will. Looking forward to hearing from you.
