since you didn't exactly give me much to work with here...
you have to choose between three rooms the first is full of blazing fire, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns and the third is full of lions who haven't eaten in three years
[ She's creative, he'll give her that. Basically, she's asking him to choose between two things he's actually faced and something totally random and out there. ]
Lions, without question. I don't like fire. Or guns.
And that's a hell of a conversation starter, I'll give you that one.
Ouch, that's a tough one. In no particular order, because it changes too often:
1. Lord of the Rings (we'll stick the trilogy in a single list item.) 2. The Breakfast Club 3. Donnie Darko 4. Dead Poet's Society 5. Jurassic Park (literally any of them, but preferably the original)
[the call comes late at night, when he knows he should already be fast asleep. he has a busy day of work tomorrow, and he has to be up early for it. but sleep isn't coming easily to him yet again, and it's for the very same reason he's been on edge all month.
thus the phone call.
he knows he could go and knock on derek's door. that, if everything he's said is true, he wouldn't actually mind. but despite knowing how close they'll supposedly all become one day, he hasn't lived through it yet. so he's still nowhere closer to trusting the other man yet. a phone call will have to do.]
Derek.
[that's it, for a long while, only the sound of his breathing being enough to make it known that he's still there. he's building himself up to making an admission. to finally saying the one thing he knows he should have admitted the moment he got here.]
[ Derek is still sort of settling in. He doesn't get out a whole lot, because he's filled his time with reading and work at CriminALES, but now and again, he checks out the events happening around town in an effort to be more normal and meet people. Tonight is one of those nights where there isn't necessarily anything happening, so Derek's holed up in his room reading a book because he has the night off. He'd been sort of nodding off in his chair when his phone rings, so it startles him a little, but maybe what startles him more is seeing Scott's name on the caller ID. ]
Scott...?
[ He's quiet for just as long as Scott is, because Scott called him, so he must want something. They're in completely different places with one another. Derek sees Scott as a leader with whom he shares a new mutual respect. Scott sees Derek as a problem. That makes things quite a bit more difficult here, so Derek's just been trying to give his friend his space. If and when Scott wants to try to navigate a more civil relationship like the one Derek is used to, he'll be here. Until then, he's not going to push his luck. Derek knows when he's not wanted and he isn't a fan of pushing himself on people who would rather not have him around.
Admittedly, he's not entirely surprised that Scott's reaching out for help. He remembers that Scott had been stubborn as hell about getting help back then, but back then...he'd had Stiles. Here, Derek doesn't think he does. ]
You feel the pull? I know it's rough at first. I can help you, but it's going to take work and you're going to have to trust me, even for a little bit. Can you set aside the fact that you and I aren't on great terms as far as you're concerned and do that? At least temporarily?
[ Because the fact of the matter is, if Scott can't trust him, even a little bit, then nothing Derek can say or do is actually going to help the kid. ]
( At some point someone leaves a present at his door. It's a knock and run, thank you silencing runes. But maybe it's not so much a secret when his gift entails things they've talked about. In a cheery little bag there's a copy of Dead Poets Society, a post-it attached of a chibi person weeping into their popcorn. There's also a dvd of The Princess Bride, and a movie night gift box. Clary's even left a card, one hand drawn that simply has love, santa xx written on it.
Here's fine, man. You're welcome and hey, don't be sorry. It gave me a chance to dad for a little while; don't tell anybody, but it was kind of nice. You were a good kid.
...I really hope the whole Fall Out Boy thing can remain our little secret. They're kind of a guilty pleasure. It's a little embarrassing.
